Hey! I had to set up a MidWest cage today, so I thought I might as well share this with you. This is the model used at the rescue centers all over. Also, I decided to measure the time, in order to see how quickly I can set this up – I got 5’56”! But before starting the timer, I first took a quick look at the box.
Guinea pig habitat – We call it the MidWest
“Bigger is better”, and that’s a little ironic because we consider this to be our minimum size – it only has 8 square feet. But I’ve seen other types of guinea pigs habitats that only have 6 square feet. The exact measurements are 47 by 24 Inches. This is what we consider the minimum appropriate space for guinea pigs.
Afterward, I started putting together the MidWest! The most time-consuming part of the whole thing was just putting the velcros on. I first thought that every time I cleaned it, I would have to take the velcros off, but that’s not the case. You can clean this thing great with just a dustpan – you don’t have to take it apart every time.
If you’re going to clean it with a dustpan, I would recommend doing it once a week and using pine shavings at least two and a half to three inches thick. Dried pine shavings work great, fleece flippers work really well for some people. I don’t have the ability to do as much laundry as it’s required for fleece. Some people make it work.
So that was it – 5 minutes and 56 seconds!
The MidWest guinea pig habitat comes, as usual, comes with instructions – that you can completely ignore. This has been the MidWest guinea pig habitat unboxing and setup. I recommend this cage as the minimum cage size for a guinea pig. These are created especially for people who aren’t ready to build their own cage.
This is really great. It sets up in minutes, and it’s got plenty of space for a pair of guinea pigs, or even a trio of girls. If taken care of it properly, if you clean the cage weekly, these things last for many years in excellent condition, so I highly recommend them. If you can’t build a cage yourself, then this is a really great option.
By the way, this also has a lid sold separately that you can attach and then you can open and close it. But we recommend you to keep these up on a table without a lid, if possible because that’s how you’ll really interact with your cute balls of fur.
These were my impressions regarding MidWest Guinea Pig Cage, I hope you found it useful!
